Update 2]: TJ Lane has been captured by police but please be advised Clifford Opperud has not been captured or located at this time.
TJ Lane was found with a pitchfork at the time of his arrest, but did
not resist arrest when officers located him. Reportedly, Lane scaled a
fence about 100 feet from the main perimeter fence. During his escape
time, law enforcement monitored the surviving victims of Lane’s attacks
for their safety. Lane was found about 100 yards from a church. Warden
Kevin Jones admits the teen was not in the maximum security facility and
they would now “sit down” and review that scenario.
Victims families want answers on how a convicted murderer escaped
from a facility. Counselors will be on hand today to help those who
relived the fear and anger upon hearing about Lane’s escape. Chardon
schools are closed today.
For those in the area, please contact local districts to determine school status, especially with Opperud still on the loose.
[Update]: Police are asking individuals to not post any social media
status updates on the police search. A Twitter user, who is also a
freelance writer was posting updates by the minute, which went against
the direct request by officials. The profile was taken down, and no
longer accessible. Viral Global News will not post on any location
information in respect to the requests of officials, until the escapees
are captured or the information is permissible by authorities.
TJ Lane is considered highly dangerous, during his court hearing in
early 2013 he taunted the victim’s families by exposing a t-shirt with
the word “Killer” scrawled across it. He showed little remorse for his
actions and the pain he brought families, friends and a community.
Clifford E. Opperud, 45, the second
inmate who escaped with TJ Lane was serving a sentence for kidnapping,
burglary and aggravated robbery. Officials ask citizens to stay in their
homes and do not willingly approach the escapees, instead contact
police immediately.
[Original]: This is a national alert stemming from Ohio. TJ Lane, the
Chardon High School shooter who killed three students, and injured
three others on Feb. 27, 2012, has escaped the Allen Correctional
Facility. The teen murderer is one of two men who have escaped the
facility. The Lima Police Department has instructed Ohioans and those
traveling in the area to not pick up any hitchhikers. Please contact 911
or 419-227-4444 to report any sightings of the two men shown below. The
agency has also asked residents not to post any areas they see police
officers searching. This is for the safety of residents and officers, as
the surrounding area is scoured.
